Honeymoon: Day Nine, ASTI & VENICE

Jessica, Sept. 16 2010: Rose at a reasonable hour (finally) to help make breakfast and get Flavia's kids ready for school. We walked with them to their classrooms for 8:00 am. JK made scrambled eggs while Flavia made coffee. The kids are so great, and they adore JK. It's been really wonderful to spend time with Flavia, drinking wine and talking about life.

Today I feel out of sorts; slept comfortably but not well last night.

Today we hung out at Flavia's, reading while she finished some translation work, then made a pot of tea and chatted in her living room before picking the boys up from school. We took them to a local trattoria for lunch - minstrone soup, salad and rabbit. The boys went to school, Flavia went to work, and we went onward to Venice.

Only a quick stop in Milano - enough time for a short walk and an elaborate scheme to drink our Crown Royal whiskey on the train (we'll buy a bottle of coke, the steal some plastic cups, then...) However, the high speed train from Milano to Venice is filled with sharply dressed businessmen with cell phones and laptops open. It is not an appropriate place for schlebs like us to be mixing our own drinks from a litre of Canadian whiskey. Or maybe it is. Can't wait for Venice!

Arrived at 8:00 pm, in the dark. Venice glittering like a thousand cat's eyes. Alive, beautiful, inviting.

We checked in at a charming hotel on a back alley called Ca'Due Leoni. We only have two nights here, and will have to find another hotel for Saturday. Venice on a typical weekend is brimming.

We walked around a bit and had a bottle of prosecco and some pasta at a nearby restaurant. The chef came to our table to make sure everything was good. We had gelato and were in bed by 11:00 pm.

I am excited, giddy.
